Before the holidays my mom wanted to go shopping so I tagged along and I was shocked at the retail prices of small appliances. She was looking for a basic coffee pot and I suggested that she hold off on her purchase until I was able to look online to see what the pricing was for coffee pots and other small appliances. I used my most persuasive arguments with her and she did wait until we got back, when I was able to use my laptop to show her that she could, indeed, save a lot of money on small appliances online.

I think she needs a stick blender because she loves pureed soups and nothing is easier to use than those. Her favorite soup is split pea and during the winter she makes a lot of it. It's so easy to turn into a smooth, creamy soup by using a stick blender. It saves a  lot of time since the soup doesn't need to be pureed in batches and most stick blenders these days come with detachable blades that can go in the dishwasher.

Now that I've convinced my mom to buy small appliances online, she's thinking about branching out for other purchases online. All my siblings order merchandise online, too, and I feel very comfortable helping her navigate the cooking sites, but I think I'll let my sister help her buy clothes online since she is a fashion whiz. Fortunately, I am able to work at home and my wardrobe consists of jeans and T shirts, and some would say I am even a little fashioned challenged. But I do know my way around the kitchen and it's no problem for me to help select small appliances that will simplify cooking for my mom, something I'm happy to do for her.
